Manifesta has a dual meaning: making public, and taking a stand. Especially in the last respect, Jakomijn stays very close to the meaning of the word: she is present in person (almost) all the time, for she works in her living space and vice versa. Manifesta Maastricht is rather a Salon d’Art than a gallery. This duality is felt in every exhibition, where she plays with mood and furnishing in order to create a tight conceptual synergy.
Manifesta is like a dialogue between people: sometimes casual, sometimes more like a conversation between friends. A dialogue between art and design, due to the cooperation with Lendfers-ID, a dialogue, even, between both extremes of the esthetic spectrum. But Manifesta Maastricht is also a place where friends gather for a drink, prepare a nice meal, enjoy some music (making), or, every now and then, participate in lectures on a variety of interesting subjects.
It is Manifesta Maastricht’s aim to become a meeting place where one can engage in conversations with individuals who aspire after thinking differently, and viewing the world in a non-conventional way. A meeting place, as well, for serious art collectors, connaisseurs who want to invest in objects of art. In our search of realising these ambitions, we aim at the highest possible standards, to accommodate both visitors and artists.
The prime activity of Manifesta Maaastricht is organising art exhibits six times a year, and selecting unexpected gems from the excessive array of contemporary fine art. We are not afraid to combine the usual with the unusual, in order to make each visit to Manifesta Maastricht special: always sparkling and full of surprises and ideas.
The objective is displaying work by either less known artists or established individuals, but always with a mission, an original way of expressing their view of the world, according to the rules of art, wishing to touch their audience, either in a positive or a negative sense.
Manifesta Maastricht wants to try to add an extra dimension, by composing a visual confrontation every once in a while. Or by exhibiting conflicting artistic trends, posing perfect alongside imperfect. You will find works of national and international artists, both famous and struggling. Harmoniously in tune with other work, or outrageously dissonating. But whether it is your taste or not, all events take place in this hospitable, pleasant space that could be considered your home.
In September 2010 accepted to the Dutch Galerie Association (NGA). |
